On the Carbon Neutral Policies and Low Emission Scenarios Of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Abstract
The paper is devoted to the study of carbon-neutral pathways in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the national context of climate change combat, and environmental security issues. It analyses low-emission greenhouse gas (GHG) development scenarios for the Republic of Azerbaijan in the XXI century and optimal pathways for the country's transition to a green economy. Since § 19 of Article 4 of the Paris Agreement defines a task for each country-Party of the Agreement, to formulate and communicate long-term low greenhouse gas emission development strategies (LT-LEDS), preparation of such a strategy is of high priority for each Party of the Agreement. Given the significant share of energy-sector emissions in Azerbaijan's total emissions, the paper focuses mainly on the energy and environmental characteristics of the decarbonisation scenarios in Azerbaijan.
