The Influence of Context on the Semantics of a Word

Nigar Seyidova

Abstract

The article is devoted to studying the influence of context on the semantics of a word. The paper analyses various factors that can influence the meaning of a word depending on the context in which it is used. The author emphasises the importance of understanding the relationship between a word and its context when analysing a text and interacting with language. The article discusses the role of lexical and grammatical context in determining the meaning of a word. A word can have different meanings in different contexts. For example, the word 'bank' can mean a financial organisation or a place to save money, depending on the context in which it is used. The study also draws attention to disambiguation, which is the process of determining the meaning of a word based on its context. In conclusion, it is emphasised that understanding context is an essential aspect of language processing and text analysis. Investigating the influence of context on word semantics helps to understand the communication process better and develop more accurate methods of natural language processing.
